Around Mangzhong, many flowers begin to fade. In the past, people held a small ceremony to thank the flower god and send her back to her place. Boiling Green Plums
Green plums ripen around this time. They are too sour and bitter to eat fresh, so people boil them, make plum wine, or cook them into jam. The famous line "talking over boiling green plums" from the Three Kingdoms stories also fits. Draw a basket of green plums and a small stove, then add a line like "Boil plums to welcome summer."
Anmiao: Praying for a Good Harvest
In parts of southern China, after planting rice, people shape new wheat dough into grains, animals, fruits, and vegetables. They steam the shapes and offer them for a good autumn harvest. This custom is colorful and easy to draw. Show a few dough animals and add the title "Anmiao for a full harvest."
A Fact Box That Keeps the Page Clear
A handwritten newspaper needs some solid facts. Leave a corner for a small fact box and write three or four lines:
