Show winter as a season of field care
Dongzhi, or the Winter Solstice, falls around December 21 to 23. It offers a useful focus for a farming-culture poster: fields enter a period of winter care, tools are put in order, and farmers prepare for the next growing season. Farming tasks differ with local weather, so present winter as a season with varied routines rather than one fixed schedule.
Draw a quiet winter field in the center, with field ridges, a vegetable plot, stored tools, or seeds nearby. A path leading from winter toward spring can connect the picture and suggest that farming continues at a different pace.
Three small features about winter farm work
- Caring for crops: Depending on the region, fields may have winter vegetables, wheat, or land resting between crops. Write about watching for cold snaps and checking soil conditions according to local needs.
- Putting tools away: Clean and dry farm tools, store them carefully, and note which ones may need repair before they are used again.
- Getting ready for spring: Check seeds and supplies, observe the condition of the land, and keep notes that may help with planning the next season.
Give each feature a simple drawing and one or two sentences. A short prompt such as “look, organize, record” makes the sections easy for younger students to write.
Short text to include on the poster
Introduction: As Dongzhi arrives, the days grow colder and the fields follow a winter rhythm. Farmers care for crops that remain in the fields, organize their tools, and observe the land while preparing for the next season. Local farming tasks vary, but careful observation and working with the seasons remain important.
Theme sentence: Winter is not an empty pause in farming; it is a time to care for the land and gather experience.
A small “My winter observations” section can record changes in the weather, trees, or a nearby garden. If you include a farming saying, check that it is used locally and explain that such sayings reflect experience rather than a rule for every region.
Arrange the page from winter fields toward spring
- Write “Notes from the Winter Solstice Fields” at the top, with a winter sun or a small farming-tool motif.
- Place the main field illustration in the center, with “Winter Care” and “Preparing for Spring” sections on either side.
- Add a short seasonal path along the bottom: observe the land in winter, continue preparing, and begin spring work when local conditions allow.
Use light blue and green with a little warm yellow, and leave enough open space for clear writing. After drafting the text, continue laying out the poster in the WeChat mini program “智慧手抄报” (Smart Handwritten Newspaper).
