Plan a Landmark Discovery Route
A fun idea for this project is “Landmarks Along My World Route.” Instead of filling the page with a detailed world map, draw a light map outline and connect several countries with a travel line. Good title ideas include “Landmarks Around the World”, “My Global Landmark Passport”, and “One Map, Five Countries.”
Choose four to six stops so the page stays easy to read. You might begin in Beijing, then travel to Cairo, Paris, Rome, Rio de Janeiro, and Sydney. The line does not need to show an exact flight path; it only needs to make the country-and-landmark connections clear.
Create Mini Passport Cards
Place one small card for each stop. Keep the same three facts on every card: the country, the continent, and one landmark feature. Aim for short descriptions of about one or two sentences.
- China, Beijing: China is in Asia. The Great Wall winds across mountains and shows the skill of ancient builders.
- Egypt, Cairo: Egypt is in northeastern Africa. The pyramids are ancient structures that reflect the building knowledge of early Egyptians.
- France, Paris: France is in Europe. The Eiffel Tower is a well-known landmark in Paris.
- Italy, Rome: Italy is in Europe. The Colosseum keeps traces of ancient Roman history.
- Brazil, Rio de Janeiro: Brazil is in South America. The Christ the Redeemer statue looks over a city of mountains and sea.
- Australia, Sydney: Australia is in Oceania. The Sydney Opera House has roofs that look like white sails.
Draw a Simple Map That Still Makes Sense
Lightly sketch the world map first, or use simple continent shapes instead of detailed coastlines. Color the main land areas gently and use numbered dots to mark the countries. This method is much easier than copying every part of a real map.
- Put the map in the center or on the left side of the page.
- Connect the numbered stops with a dotted travel line.
- Draw small landmark icons near the edge of the map.
- Match each number to its passport card so readers can follow the route.
Make the Page Feel Like a Travel Journal
Add a small globe and a plane trail at the top. Around the map, arrange the passport cards at different angles. A corner called “What I Discovered” can include a few ideas: countries have different building styles, landmarks carry history, and we should respect cultures around the world.
Blue, green, and orange make a clean color set. Use blue for oceans and route lines, green for land, and orange for headings and numbers. Outline landmark drawings in black, then add only a little color to keep the design neat.
Check Before You Finish
- Make sure every country is matched with the correct landmark.
- Label the continent for each country.
- Check that route numbers and information cards match.
- Leave enough space between lines of writing.
- Add your name, class, and date.
